Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate Court IV, on Tuesday, remanded the five accused in the case pertaining to the murder of Malabar Chamber of Commerce secretary and trader P P Nazeer Ahammed to judicial custody for 14 days.
The accused include V P Hisham, hailing from Nilambur and doing used-car business in Kozhikode, Palliparambil Shihab, Kunnumburathu Sumesh, Kakkappara Shabeer and Naduvakkaru Sheriff.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Kozhikode North Prince Abraham said the police moved the petition seeking the custody of the accused on Tuesday and the court will consider it on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, investigators reportedly took the other two accused to custody on Tuesday evening. However, there is no official confirmation regarding their arrest.
Earlier on the day, police took the five accused to Chevayur, the spot from where the accused abducted Nazeer Ahammed and Pachikkal junction near Chevarambalam, where the body was dumped by the gang, for collecting evidence.
The police team also took evidence from the office of the used-car showroom at Eranhipalam, where the accused brought Nazeer after kidnapping.
Police officials said forensic experts have established the presence of blood stains inside the Maruti Omni van as well as the room in the office of the used-car showroom. Police also seized the Maruti Omni van in which the accused had abducted Nazeer Ahammed. Officials said two other cars, which the accused used for dumping the dead body and to locate the whereabouts of the trader, are yet to be discovered.
Hisham, who harboured a grudge against Nazeer Ahammed for indulging in an illicit relationship with the wife of his uncle, abducted the latter with help of six others on Friday night and smothered the trader using a towel. Nazeer’s body was found on the roadside near Chevarambalam on September 29.
