New Delhi: Microblogging website Twitter is abuzz with excitement over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US on September 25. Modi, who was earlier scheduled to leave for Washington on September 26, advanced it by a day due to 'landing issues' in Germany, sources said on Monday.
This will be Modi's first visit to the US as PM and the first since the Gujarat riots of 2002 following which he was put on a US visa blacklist. The excitement, hence, is palpable.
Anurag Kejriwal, a Twitter user, wrote, "US is more keekn to meet NaMo¬ vice versa-US corporates need India that works which is under NaMo (sic)".
Pradeep Kumar Sarkar, another Twitter user, said, "China Pres.found our PM hard nut to crack.USA will also realize PM is no pushover.US must apolg for no visa row."
Once in the US, Modi will attend a business meeting at the Taj Pierre organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and the Indian American Foundation.
On September 27, he will address the United Nations General Assembly. He is expected to deliver a brief speech at Central Park as part of the global citizens' festival. He is also expected to meet former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
On September 28, he will address the NRIs at the Madison Square.
On September 29, the PM will have a private dinner with President Barack Obama in Washington.
On September 30, he will have a one-on-one meeting with the US President. He is also likely to attend a function hosted by the Clinton Foundation.
