BANGALORE: In about a year’s time, nanotechnology and nanoscience will be incorporated into the syllabus of science, engineering and medical courses, said Higher Education minister Dr V S Acharya.Speaking at the valedicory programme of the fourth Bangalore Nano national conference here on Friday, Dr Acharya said, “Nanotechnology is considered as the technology revolution of the 21st century. In order to keep up with this field, it is necessary to focus and incorporate nanotechnology into the syllabi of biotechnology, information technology, environmental science, engineering and medicine. The state government will take necessary steps in this regard.” He said that the proposed incorporation was in the planning stage and thatcomprehensive talks would soon follow. “It is still in the planning stage. Everybody needs to sit down and talk about this. It should take about a year considering the nature of the field that we are talking about,” he said. Being a doctor himself, he stressed on the potential of nanotechnology in the field of medicine. “Its applications have already made way in the areas of energy, environment and biotechnology. I consider medicine to be an important field for future innovations,” he said. He added that nanotechnology would see innovative diagnosis and therapeutics in cancer treatment and delivery of personalised medicines. Eminent scientist Prof C N R Rao hoped that the conference would only grow in strength in the future. “Though this is a nano celebration, it is a giant one nonetheless. I hope the seed that we have planted would eventually grow to become a forest,” he said. The 4th Bangalore Nano, a two-day conference on nanoscience saw 536 delegates, 25 exhibitors from over 12 countries, 61 speakers and participants   representing over 15  nationalities. The dates for the the 5th Bangalore Nano 2012 were also announced. Tutorials would be held on December 5, 2012 while the conference will be held on December 6 and 7 next year.
