ANGUL: The 5000 contractual workers of Nalco called off their nine-day ceasework on Thursday.The decision came after a meeting between the trade union leaders and Nalco management headed by Executive Director PR Chaudhury. The management decided to enhance the daily wage from the existing Rs 195 to Rs 203. However, the workers would continue their relay dharna in front of the two gates till December 23 as planned earlier.Terming that the strike has been called off ‘for the time being’, Rajiv Jena, president of contractual workers trade union committee said “we have called off the strike for the time being in view of the crisis situation in the power and smelter plants, but we will continue to fight for the fulfilment of our demands, including the monthly wage of Rs 10,400”.
