Nadal, Williams sisters advance at US Open
World No. one Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Williams sisters booked their places in the 4th round at the US Open.

New York: World Number one Rafael Nadal booked his place in the 4th round here at the flushing meadows. Nadal was on song as he completed a straight set win over Viktor Troy-kee of Serbia.

The 22-year-old Nadal took the first set comfortably at 6-4 but in the second set Troy-kee troubled Nadal a bit. However, the top seed proved to be too good for his 71st ranked opponent and he ultimately took the set 6-3.

Nadal then blanked Troy-kee in the decider to wrap up a 6-4, 6-3, 6-0 win in just under 2 hours. And now he will meet Sam Querrey in his 4th round match.

Meanwhile, another third round match between Andy Murray and Jurgen Melzer saw Murray prevail over his Austrian opponent after a marathon match that lasted 3 hours and 52 minutes.

In this nerve wrecking five-setter the sixth seeded Murray came back from being two sets down to take the match 6-7, 4-6, 7-6, 6-1, 6-3. Murray will play Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland in the fourth round.

In the Women's Singles, Venus Williams cruised through to the fourth round as well. The 7th seed American beat Alona Bondarenko 6-2, 6-1 in just 56 minutes. The seven time Grand Slam champion Venus fired in 9 aces and 32 winners to set up her next match against ninth-seeded Ag-niesz-ka Radwanska of Poland.

Even younger sister Serena Williams also marched into the round of 16 as the 4th seeded brushed aside the challenge from Ai Sugiyama of Japan, clinching a straight set 6-2, 6-1 win.

Now a mouth watering quarterfinal match up is possible between the two sisters if they both win their respective fourth round matches.

But for the Indian fans there is nothing much to cheer about as India's Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Samantha Stosur lost their mixed doubles second round match.

The pair lost to Rennae Stubbs and Robert Lindstedt.

Even though Bhupathi and Stosur took the first set 6-2 but they gave away the lead and lost the second set 3-6 and then the tie breaker 10-12.

Bhupathi though will be seen in the men's doubles draw along with Mark Knowles.
