Muzaffarnagar riots: SC issues notice to UP for inaction in rape cases

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government for not taking action in rape cases in the wake of the Muzaffarnagar riots. Six riot victims complained of police inaction saying not a single arrest had been made more than three months after they were allegedly assaulted.

The Supreme Court has asked the state government to file a response in two weeks' time. CNN-IBN had recently reported how the accused were roaming scot-free despite being named and identified.

The SIT that is now handling the cases has asked the police to nab the 22 accused.
