Islamabad: Pakistani prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday attributed the Mumbai carnage to a "big intelligence failure" on India's part and said his government was ready for joint intelligence operations to prevent such incidents in future.
"Though it's their internal matter, it was a big intelligence failure and now we'll have to defend two countries," Gilani said while commenting on the Mumbai attacks.
Talking to media persons in Karachi after inaugurating a hospital, the prime minister said that his government is ready for "joint intelligence" to prevent Mumbai-like incidents from happening.
He said it was strange that 10 people held India hostage during the mayhem.
"It's a massive failure and we are ready to help India in this regard," Gilani maintained.
He termed it strange that the whole world was raising a hue and cry over the Mumbai incidents and wondered "why the world is quiet over the terrorism in Kashmir, where hundreds of people have been killed, why is the world quiet over the Palestine issue and where was the world was when (former prime minister) Benazir Bhutto was killed (Dec 27, 2007)?"
The prime minister said his government was fully cooperating with India and can extend further cooperation in "intelligence and investigations". He said that India should not "target or ridicule" Pakistan, adding "our forces are capable of defending the country and no one should have doubt in this regard".
Contending that Pakistan is a stable country, he added that the media should not compare the foreign policies of India and Pakistan.
"They are doing it in their own style and we do it in our own style... we have no competition with India in this regard," Gilani maintained.
He also said there were no differences between him and President Asif Ali Zardari.
"We are from the same party and there are no differences," the prime minister said with a smile in reply to a question.
"We have good relations and my government is working according to the constitution," the prime minister said, refusing to comment on the sacking of National Security Advisor Mahmud Ali Durrani beyond saying: "I've already spoken on it and the chapter is closed."
