Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has submitted a report to Governor Balram Jakhar on the violence during student union polls in Ujjain that led to the death of professor H S Sabharwal, Raj Bhavan sources said on Saturday.
"We have received a report from the government regarding the recent incidents at Madhav College in Ujjain and it has been handed over to the Governor," said a source.
The sources did not give details about the report but said it was a "brief one". It is entirely up to the governor to decide on the action to be taken on the report, they said.
Jakhar had sought a report from the government on the incidents in Madhav College following the cancellation of student union polls on August 26, the sources said. Sabharwal died shortly after he was allegedly assaulted by students.
The Governor, who is the Chancellor of all universities in the state, has voiced concern over the incidents and asked the state government to take steps to prevent unruly activities in educational institutions.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Jakhar asked the state government to amend the process for holding student union elections to ensure that educational institutions did not become centres of unruly activities.
