The mortal remains of senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh deputy chief minister, Subhash Yadav were consigned to flames with full state honours near his native village in Khargone on Thursday, party sources said.

The mortal remains of senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh deputy chief minister, Subhash Yadav were consigned to flames with full state honours near his native village in Khargone on Thursday, party sources said.

The funeral pyre was lit by Yadav's second son Sachin Yadav near his native village Borawan on the banks of Narmada river in the presence of a large number of his admirers, the sources said. Yadav died on Wednesday at a hospital in Delhi following prolonged illness. His body was brought last evening by plane to Indore from where it was taken to Borawan.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reached Borawan this morning and after paying condolences at Yadav's house returned to Indore. At the time of the cremation, those present included the Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi, Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Ajay Singh, MLAs, workers of political parties and prominent citizens.
