Two miscreants were lynched by villagers in Chitreshwar village, about 90 km from Jamshedpur, under Barsol police station in Ghatsila sub-divisional of East Singhbhum, a senior police officer on Thursday said.
One of the victims was identified as notorious criminal Dinesh Rana, while the identity of the other victim was yet be established, said Senior Superintendent of Police, Amol V Homkar.
A police team led by a Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Ghatsila), Arif Ekram, has rushed to the spot for further investigation.
The exact cause behind the killing as well as the killer was not yet known, Ekram said adding the bodies have been recovered.
The incident took place in this afternoon near the Chitreshwar Temple in Barsol, bordering West Bengal. Villagers told the police that a group of people from West Bengal came chasing four criminals including the victims, who were on two motorcycle, and axed them to death, the SDPO said.
When the killers were sure that both were dead, they beheaded the victims and fled, Ekram said adding the Police have seized the motorcycle from the spot and identified Rana from his voter identity card recovered from his pocket.
