Arsikere MLA and JD(S) leader K M Shivalingegowda on Sunday threatened to resign if the government did not stop releasing water to Tamil Nadu within a week.
He said that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is politicising the issue and alleged her of blackmailing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard.
Shivalingegowda, who staged a rasta roko for an hour on Bangalore-Honnavar Road said that the Prime Minister and Cauvery River Authority (CRA) chairman had favoured TN by taking a hasty decision at the meeting. Coming down heavily on External Affairs Minister S M Krishna for expressing his concern after the water was released, the MLA demanded all four Union ministers representing Karnataka at the Centre to step down immediately owning moral responsibility.
Demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar for failing to keep up his promise over the Cauvery issue, he said that the CM should join the protests in the interest of the state.
Giving a week’s deadline to the state government to stop the release water, Shivalingegowda said that he will not submit the resignation to JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy to get public sympathy but directly submit the same to Legislative Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah.
