KOTTAYAM: An MBBS student of Kottayam Medical College drowned in a quarry filled with water at Parampuzha, near Kottayam, in the wee hours of Monday. The deceased is John Reynold, 22, of Pulparambil House, Karikkode, Thodupuzha. The incident occurred at Kanjirappallyppadi around 2.30 am on Monday. According to the police, John and one of his classmates came to the quarry in a car around 1 am. When the car reached the dead-end of the road, they tried to turn back the vehicle. However, the rear wheel of the car dipped in the edge of the quarry. John came out of the car and tried to push the car back on to the road. But, he slipped and fell into the water- filled quarry, which was around 50-metres deep. Though the other student immediately informed the local residents about the accident, they could not find John. Later, the Fire and Rescue Service force from Kottayam reached the spot and fished out the body by 4.30 am. John is the son of Dr Reynold of Marian Hospital, Pala, and Elizabeth, professor, Assumption College, Changanassery.
