CHENNAI: A 28-year-old mason was arrested for allegedly strangulating his lover to death at West Mambalam on Monday. Sakthivel, a native of Rasipalayam in Coimbatore, met Lakshmi, a married woman, in Andhra Pradesh and started a liaison with her. She left her two children in her native and arrived with him here on Sunday. The mason took up work at a construction site on Dhandapani Street, West Mambalam and doubled as the watchman during the night. The couple stayed in a room at the site itself. On Monday night, there was a tiff between them and Sakthivel strangled Lakshmi with his towel. He then inflicted cut injuries on his neck and called the building contractor Kalyan Chakravarthy and bluffed that a gang had attacked and killed his wife and injured him.The contractor alerted the police, who soon found several holes in the mason’s story. Grilled, Sakthivel reportedly confessed and was arrested.
