A man was sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court here for raping a minor girl and later forcing her to abort. Additional District Judge S N Tripathi also imposed a penalty of Rs 1.2 lakh on the convict Ahbaran Singh on Wednesday. 70 per cent of the penalty amount will be given to the victim.

Singh had sexually assaulted the 15-year-old, a resident of Ushait area of Budaun district, on pretext of marrying her and when she became pregnant, he forced her to abort, additional district counsel Gyan Swaroop Gupta said. He said a complaint in this regard was lodged on the directives of National Human Rights Commission a complaint was lodged in 2011.
