KOTTAYAM: The First Additional Sessions Court on Friday sentenced, Jose, 47, to double life imprisonment and fined Rs 20,000 for murdering his wife and daughter in November 2009. Delivering the verdict, Judge P Sankaranunni said that Jose should undergo a sentence of not less than 20 years.The judge said that the fine of Rs 10,000 was for each victim he had murdered, and that it should be paid to his son Sibin working in Ernakulam. The court had earlier found Jose guilty of killing his wife Lovely, 42, and daughter Manumol, 16, at Thidanadu, Erattupetta, in November 2009.The prosecution appealed to the court to give capital punishment to Jose considering the case as the rarest of the rare. The defence appealed for leniency to the accused, saying that he had committed the crime out of frustration.According to the prosecution, the accused was financially shattered due to his addiction to buying lottery tickets, and was desperately struggling to run the family.Additional public prosecutor N Gopalakrishnan appeared on behalf of the prosecution.
