A deadly fire broke out at a residential building in Maharashtra’s Dombivli on Saturday. All residents of the building, situated at Khoni Palava near Dombivli, were evacuated safely and no injuries were reported.

According to an India Today report, the fire was triggered by a short circuit on the seventh floor of the building. The fire department arrived at the scene in no time and extinguished the flames. Cooling operations are underway, officials said.

Quoting the fire brigade officials, an NDTV report said the fire began around 11:00 am on Saturday morning and spread to the 18th floor. The building is still under construction and only the first three floors are currently occupied.

Last month, two people were killed after a fire broke out in a four-floor building near Girgaon Chowpatty in Mumbai. According to fire officials, the “level-2” (major) fire, which erupted on the third floor of Gomati Bhavan situated on Rangnekar Road, was doused after six hours.

In November 2023, a fire erupted on the eighth and the 12th floor of a residential building in the Grant Road area of south Mumbai. No casualties were reported. “The fire brigade rescued several residents stranded on the 15th, 21st and 22nd floors of the building and shifted them safely to the terrace through the staircase,” a fire official said.
