CHENNAI: Now, computers, televisions, cordless and mobile phones, and even compact fluorescent light bulbs are to be shunned in order to avoid diabetes, if researchers are to be believed.International researchers have found that electro-pollution causes Type-III diabetes and Indian researchers from Chennai are taking the cue from this development and planning to study how genes could be affected by dirty electricity resulting in Type-III diabetes.Type-III diabetes is regarded as ‘brain’ specific diabetes, a dangerous diabetes hybrid that was first discovered in 2005.Prof S M Rajendran of Barath University’s Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital said that the new research centre for diabetes and obesity, which was opened on Wednesday, will study how dirty electricity results in increase in blood sugar as well as how it effects the genes. He said plans are on for a tie-up between Indian Council for Medical Research and United Kingdom’s Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow. He said the management has agreed to fund the research by offering `25 lakh.Interestingly, the study is planned after it was found out that Type-III diabetics experience spikes in blood sugar and an increased heart rate when exposed to electrical pollution after exposre to computers, televisions, cordless and mobile phones, and even compact fluorescent light bulbs. Trent University in Canada recently published the results of a study on the relationship between electromagnetic fields and diabetes  in electromagnetic biology and medicine.Prof Rajendran said that treadmills, suggested to cut down blood sugar, do the opposite by increasing blood sugars.
