Jammu: A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed in a fierce gunbattle with security forces in border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said here on Tuesday.
Acting on an information about the presence of militants in Poonch district's Soni-top forests in Baflaiz -Dera-ki-Gali belt troops of 18 Rashtriya Rifles and police launched a search operation in the area on Monday night, Defence PRO S N Acharya said.
During the operation, militants fired upon the forces following which the troops retaliated.
One LeT militant was killed in the gunfight, while two more are still in the cordon.
The encounter is going on in the area when the reports last came in, he said.
