A Chandrapur-based lawyer was arrested for allegedly disrupting government work and threatening a police official at a police station in Gadchiroli district.
According to Chamorshi police station incharge, lawyer Subir Roy of Chandrapur had come to the police station on August 24 with an anticipatory bail of his client and insisted that he be released. While a police official on duty asked him to wait as the station officer had gone out, the lawyer got angry and allegedly caught hold of the personnel. He also threw away a register kept on the table and threatened the policeman.
Based on the complaint of the police official, a case under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Roy on Saturday evening and he was subsequently arrested. He was released on bail on Sunday by the Chamorshi court.
Meanwhile, Roy has denied the allegations levelled against him by the police saying they are completely false, baseless and concocted. He also alleged that the PSO beat him up in the police lock up. He further alleged that the police framed him in a false case because his client had lodged a complaint with the Anti Corruption Bureau against the Chamorshi police few days back, as they had allegedly demanded bribe for hushing up the case against him.
The lawyer said he would complain to the higher authorities against the PSO and demanded stern action against the security personnel.
