KOCHI: Ending a long tug-of-war between the Vyttila Mobility Hub Society and the KSRTC, the latter finally began to operate 24x7 from the Hub from Friday. The step will be a huge boost to the Hub as the lack of night-time KSRTC services had been a major flaw in its functioning.According to the plan, as many as 32 KSRTC long-distance services will ply through the Hub during night time. As part of the process, the KSRTC Station Master’s cabin and an information counter were officially inaugurated by Transport Minister V S Sivakumar. The event also saw the release of a time chart for Volvo AC buses, which will be made available to passengers. Inaugurating the event, the Transport Minister said the KSRTC would be starting around 1,000 new services soon. “Over 3,500 temporary staff of the KSRTC have been made permanent. The KSRTC is also planning to start a number of new services by January 20,” Sivakumar said.Meanwhile, Dominic Presentation MLA raised doubts regarding the 24x7 plan being disadvantageous for the West Kochi residents. On the occasion, he emphasised the need for better connectivity between the Eastern and Western parts of the city. Excise Minister K Babu, MLAs Benny Behanan, Dominic Presentation and Hibi Eden, Mayor Tony Chammany, Mobility Hub society Managing Director M Beena and top KSRTC officials were present.
