CHITRADURGA: Squadron Leader Chaithanya, the first Kannadiga and apparently the first South Indian to scale Mt Everest who went missing after the expedition in 2005, has received due recognition with KSRTC naming a bus service after him.The local KSRTC depot recently started the ‘Veera Yodha Chaithanya Express,’ a bus service that plies between Bangalore and Chitradurga. The bus leaves Chitradurga at 6.30 am reaches Bangalore by 11 am. It will return to Chitradurga at 4 pm. Depot manager Jayakumar told Express on Monday: “During Kannada Rajyotsava, some people gave me a requisition to peruse documents produced by the family and we thought of naming a service after the great person as a small tribute. Before this, we had named services as Chandravalli, Jogimutti and now Veera Yodha Chaithanya Express has joined the team,” he added.Veera Yodha Chaithanya Abhimanigala Sangha president Nataraj said: “No one recognised his services, but now we are happy that KSRTC has heeded to our request.” We urged Davangere University to name the Guddada Rangavvanahalli campus after Squadron Leader Chaithanya. We are requesting CMC to rename a circle or road after him, he said.
