KOPPAL: Polling for bypoll to the Koppal Assembly Constituency passed off peacefully amid soaring temperature, here on Monday. However, there were sporadic instances of discrepancies in electoral roll depriving franchise to voters in Koppal and altercation between Congress and JD(S) workers in Kavaloor village. Three persons identified as Subhash Chandra, Bhimareddy and Kasim Ali were arrested during the wee hours of Monday for allegedly distributing money in Horatatnal village. A police jeep on its way to the polling booths in Alwandi village, turned upside down and injuried PSI Basavaraj and police constable Andappa. Both were admitted to the nearby government hospital in Hiresindogi village.Interestingly, both Congress candidate Basavaraj Hitnal and JD(S) candidate Pradeepagouda Malipatil predicted victory with a lead margin of about 15,000 votes, while BJP candidate Sanganna Karadi claimed that the voters would elect him for development in the constituency.Though there was brisk voting in the morning, it slumped by noon owing to the scorching sun and picked up gradually by 4 pm.While the constituency registered 55 per cent polling by around 4 pm, the returning officer for the bypoll Sharanabasppa told The New Indian Express over the phone that the final percentage of polling would be available by 9 pm.
