BANGALORE: The Karnataka Medical Council (KMC) inaugurated the KMC-II, a centre for conducting Continuing Medical Education (CME)  on Vidya Bhavana premises on Monday.The centre provides programmes for doctors, specialists and super specialists.  “After undergoing CME training for 30 hours, once in five years, re-registration  has been made compulsory by an amendment to Karnataka Medical Council Act.Therefore, this centre will now help in providing continuing medical education programmes to the doctors”, said Dr Chikkananjappa, president, KMC, during the inauguration.Home and Transport Minister R Ashok said that the government is ready to sell the land, which is taken on lease by the council.The KMC-II centre, built on 25,000 sq.ft area. Around 2 Crore and 21 Lakhs has been spent for the construction of the centre.Emphasing on the cost effective medical education, Dr CN Manjunath, director, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology and Research said that the cost effective medical education is more important than providing cost effective treatment.Besides, Dr SriPrakash, Vice Chancellor, RGUHS, Dr Devi Shetty,  Chairman, Narayana Hrudayalaya, S Harish, Deputy mayor, Aswathanarayana, MLA, Dr Kantha, EX VC RGUHS and Dr Venkatesh, director, Nephro Urology Insitute and Dr Bidanal, president, IMA and other prominent doctors was present during the inauguration of the centre.
