KOCHI: To prevent the subsidy given on kerosene from falling into the wrong hands, the government has decided to transfer the subsidy directly to the beneficiaries’ bank account instead of subsidising the fuel at the ration shops. According to a circular issued by the Commissionerate of Civil Supplies, Thiruvananthapuram, the beneficiaries will have to buy kerosene from ration shops at the market price. The subsidised amount will be remitted in his or her bank account by the end of the year. To avail of the scheme, the beneficiary should have an account in a nationalised bank. The whole amount will be remitted to that account after assessing the quantity of fuel bought in a year, the circular said. The circular number 05/12, which has been issued in this regard, pointed out that this measure has been initiated to put a tab on the increasing incidence of black marketing and hoarding. “To avail of the scheme, the beneficiary will have to fill a form and submit it to the Taluk Supply and City Rationing offices along with a copy of the first page of the bank pass book,” it said. The Central government has instructed the District Supply Officers, Taluk Supply Officers and City Rationing Officers to make the scheme operative by September 2012. The state government has been giving `14 to `15 as subsidy for a litre of kerosene. But the amount is bound to change according to the variation in transportation charges. The beneficiary will have to pay an amount between `50 to `55 when they buy kerosene from the ration shop.
