KOCHI: As the number of terrorism-related cases are on the rise in the state, the Kerala High Court has asked the state government to open one more special court for the trial of the terrorism-related cases probed by the National Investigating Agency (NIA).“The NIA had made a request before the Kerala High Court for a new special court in Ernakulam. The High Court administrative wing headed by the Acting Chief Justice has forwarded it to the state government,” the office of the High Court Registrar informed. The authorities are planning to hand over the additional charge of the NIA Special Court to the CBI Court-I.At present, the CBI Special Court-II has the charge of NIA Court and had pronounced the verdict in the Kozhikode twin-blast case. The trial of the Kashmir recruitment case is being conducted at the NIA Court. However, the trail in the Kalamassery bus burning case and the Vagamon and Panayikulam SIMI camp cases, in which the chargesheets have filed, have not yet started. The Nedumbassery and Karipur fake currency notes cases and the palm chopping case are also under the jurisdiction of the NIA court.“It is difficult to handle all these cases by the present court which is also considering the CBI and the arbitration cases. So, we are forced to request for another court so that the trial proceedings could be completed without any delay,” the NIA officials said.
