BANGALORE: The State Government on Friday submitted a report to the High Court stating that the death of the children at Marakamdinni village in Deodurg taluk of Raichur was not only due to malnutrition, as the region has several other problems.Also, it assured that a committee will be implemented to create awareness on the government schemes to prevent malnutrition.Additional Advocate General K M Natraj, citing a report by Department of Women and Child Welfare, said that the region had problems like illiteracy, child marriage, marriage among blood relatives, anaemia and other diseases.He stated that the region also lags behind in utilising government facilities due to illiteracy. Natraj further stated that the the media reports were false. He further said that infant death was death due to various other reasons like premature delivery, low birth weight, jaundice and septicemia.He assured that the state will form a committee to implement the schemes to enrich nutrition within two weeks. The division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice A S Bopanna which heard the matter suggested to involve NGOs to help the state to prevent such incident, for which the state said that it is inviting many NGOs to help them in implementing the programmes.
