Jaya, Anupam play couple in new film
The cast of Pradeep Sarkar’s untitled film includes Jaya Bachchan and Anupam Kher who play husband and wife.

Mumbai: Although the entire team is tight-lipped about it, the cast of director Pradeep Sarkar's next film, including Jaya Bachchan and Anupam Kher as husband and wife, is in place.

Sarkar, who has moved from the folds of Vidhu Chopra's production house after Parineeta, starring Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan, will make the film for Yash Raj Films.

The story of the as-yet untitled film is by Aditya Chopra.

Both Jaya and Anupam had earlier played husband and wife in Govind Nihalani's film Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa.

"Pradeep Sarkar chose the cast that was dictated by Aditya Chopra's script," according a source.

Rani Mukerji and Konkona Sen Sharma have been cast as the daughters of the house.

While Rani has worked on a number of occasions in Yash Raj Films, Konkona is a new entrant into the prestigious banner.

Kokona's role was apparently offered to Vidya, who wasn't willing to do a secondary role to Rani, not after having done a relatively peripheral role to Aishwarya Rai in Mani Ratnam's Guru.

Incidentally, Konkona, who seems to have been selected on the basis of her rabble-rousing performance in Vishal Bhardwaj's Omkara, is already playing Jaya's daughter in Rituparno Ghosh's Sunglass.

Kunal Kapoor, who has been extra-picky after Rang De Basanti has said yes to playing Konkona's romantic lead.

And Abhishek Bachchan, who shares a long-lasting professional relationship with Yash Raj Films and Rani, has been cast opposite Rani once again.

"Anupam, Jaya, Rani and Konkona look like a perfect family. The film is located in Varanasi. Sarkar rang up Rituparno Ghosh in Kolkata to discuss where the best antique furniture is available in Varanasi. You see, Ritu has shot in Varanasi for Chokher Bali," the source added.
