For its next festival, the celebrated Locarno festival has decided to have a segment focussing on Indian films. The Festival's co-production Lab's Open Doors focussed on China last year and South Asia this year. The announcement was made by Festival's Artisitc director Olivier Pere and Head of Locarno's Industry Office, Nadia Dresti at a press conference organised at IFFI.
Pere said, "Every one knows about India as the largest in film production, making around 1,300 films a year." Pere said that they would be concentrating more on the smaller film makers across the country."
Three Indian experts, Sunil Doshi, Meenakshi Shedde and Uma Da Cunha, will be working on the choice of films for the Open Doors 2011 programme.
Open Doors is supported by the Swiss Foreign Ministry's Agency for Development and Co-operation (SDC). Twelve short listed Indian films will be invited to participate in the co-production lab during the Locarno festival which will be held between 3-13 August, 2011.
Indian projects can be submitted to Open Doors through the Festival website, www.pardo.ch
