New Delhi: It is time we move over the 'typical' filmy hero we have grown so used to watching in Hindi film. Yes, he has invariably wowed everyone with his ability to combat over 50 goons at one time and impressed off his lady love with witty and quirky one liners. Bollywood's new age heroes are charming, intense, and passionate. Here's a lowdown on the nominations for the Best actor category. These actors have won everybody's hearts with their heartwarming performances.
Aamir Khan (Dhoom:3): If there is any actor who has proved 'typecasting' is an unacceptable word in Bollywood, it has to be Aamir Khan. The star, who has several diverse roles to his credit, wowed fans with his role in 'Dhoom: 3'. By playing an anti-hero, Aamir proved he doesn't want to be stuck in a particular genre. From his look, death-defying stunts and dance moves, Aamir can skip from one genre to the next with utmost ease.
Irrfan Khan (The Lunchbox): He might not fit into the bill of a typical Bollywood hero but he surely knows how to captivate all with his performance. Only an actor of a caliber of Irrfan Khan can make you fall in love with a man in late 50s. Recreating old-fashioned romance in 'The Lunchbox', Irrfan beautifully portrays the role of a self restrained man who undergoes a change after he falls into love and brings out the desire to live through his character in the film.
Dhanush (Raanjhanaa): There is more to Dhanush than just being Rajinikanth's son-in-law and the voice behind the viral song 'Kolaveri Di' and the actor proves it in his Bollywood debut 'Raanjhanaa'. He might not have the 'typical' Bollywood looks but Dhanush definitely shows acting prowess. From learning Hindi to working on his diction, Dhanush makes every effort to fit into Bollywood and he steals the show in 'Ranjhaana' by playing a Hindu boy who falls for a Muslim girl.
Sushant Singh Rajput (Kai Po Che): There could not have been a better debut for Sushant Singh Rajput than 'Kai Po Che' wherein he plays a sportsperson who opens his own coaching institute. Based on Chetan Bhagat's popular novel, the film revolves around friendship and Sushant clearly is the life line of the film.
Rajkummar Rao (Shahid): The actor, who won plaudits for his performance in 'Kai Po Che', managed to impress many with his performance in 'Shahid'. As critics have pointed out, Rajkumar is the soul of the fearless film. In a year, Rajkumar proved his acting prowess and diversity with two different films.
