'I Don't Buy Silk Or Leather': On Daughter's Request, CJI DY Chandrachud Goes 'Vegan, Cruelty-Free'
"I have two daughters - Priyanka and Mahi - who are specially-abled and they continue to inspire me in whatever I do," CJI DY Chandrachud said on Monday.

As the general saying goes, a daughter is her daddy’s princess, and it’s no different for the Chief Justice of India. CJI DY Chandrachud on Monday revealed how he decided to adopt a “vegan” and “cruelty-free” lifestyle on the request of his two daughters.

“I have two daughters – Priyanka and Mahi – who are specially-abled and they continue to inspire me in whatever I do. I have gone vegan recently because my daughter said we should lead a cruelty free life,” the Chief Justice of India revealed while speaking at the Delhi High Court on Monday.

“I don’t buy any silk product or any new leather product. My wife doesn’t buy any silk or leather products either,” he added.

He was speaking at the launch of Digital Law Reports of Delhi High Court as well as the inauguration of an outlet of Sagar Ratna, which would be run by neuro-diverse people associated with the Shaurya Foundation.

Their Minds Are Razor Sharp: CJI On His Daughters

Justice Chandrachud had adopted two daughters, and both are specially abled. The elder daughter’s name is Priyanka, while the younger one is Mahi.

He had adopted them in 2015 while he was serving as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.

As per the CJI, the village to which these two young girls belonged to in Uttarakhand, didn’t have a proper school and he had arranged for their education at his home in Allahabad.

Later, when he shifted to Delhi, they first went to a school named Tamanna and later got admitted to the Sanskriti School.

“Though they are special needs children, their minds are razor sharp…We never imagined that these girls would come into our lives, but I feel that they have reshaped our lives in so many ways,” CJI DY Chandrachud had said in a media interview.
