CUDDALORE/PUDUCHERRY:  Heavy and persistent rains lashed Cuddalore and Puducherry on Tuesday.  Water-logging on many roads in Cuddalore town and on Aladi Road near Vridhachalam bus stand caused inconvenience to the public.Students and office-goers suffered the most. Adding to the students woes was the fact that in some schools there was no furniture in the classrooms,  and students who normally sat on the ground could not do so as the floors were wet.Cuddalore collector V Amuthavalli announced holiday on Wednesday for schools due to the inclement weather.      The condition of Bharathi Road in Cuddalore worsened as large pools of water have made the potholes invisible. The rain has also hit agriculture in the delta regions of the district.At Vridhachalam, due to encroachments on  the Oothodai canal, water overflowed onto the roads. Municipal chairman RD Aranganathan and ward member Kamaraj visited the canal on Tuesday and ensured desiltation and clearing of garbage. At Pallikuppam, near Chidambaram, the roof of a house collapsed and two persons were injured. At Bhuvanagiri, the sunshade of a building fell on three people and injured them.As per data, Lalpet got 45 mm on Monday. Lakkur had 41.30 mm and Chidambaram 37.40 mm.The Met dept, on Tuesday,  dept announced that Puducherry received 28.3 mm of rain since Monday evening.
