Washington: Pakistani-American terror suspect David Coleman Headley, who allegedly acted as a scout for militants who plotted the Mumbai terror attacks, is not cooperating with Indian authorities interrogating him in Chicago.
Sources tell CNN-IBN Headley has been stalling officials of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), giving them incomplete replies. Headley is using the terms of his plea bargain and use the Fifth Amendment, an American law which permits him to not implicate himself in a criminal investigation, to dodge questions put to him.
Headley, an alleged supporter of the Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba, struck a deal with US authorities in a plea bargain that saved him from the death penalty and extradition to India. The plea agreement had, however, said Headley would cooperate with foreign authorities but can be interviewed by them only on the US soil.
A PTI report filed on Saturday said the NIA team is headed by Loknath Behera and it includes two Superintendents of Police and a special public prosecutor.
