CHENNAI: The operation of a resolution passed by the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) in Meenambakkam to expel a woman pilot from its membership for not participating in the recent strike on May 15 last has been stayed by the Madras High Court.Justice V Ramasubramanian granted the injunction, while passing interim orders on an application arising out of a civil suit from Captain M Deepa of Thiruvanmiyour, on Wednesday.“Interim stay of the impugned resolution and there will be an order of interim injunction for three weeks,’’ the judge said and ordered notice to the authorities.In her suit, Deepa, the only woman flight commander operating in the Air India from Chennai, submitted that she did not participate in the pilots strike during April-May last in public interest. The ICPA, by an email sent to her on April 27 and by a resolution adopted subsequently on May 15 last, expelled her from the membership of the association.Hence, the present suit praying for declaring the expulsion as null and void. The interim prayers were to restrain the association from interfering with her duties and responsibilities as flight commander and to stay the operation of the May 15 resolution, which also expelled one more pilot K Vijay and first-officer Vivek C Karun.
