CUTTACK: The Orissa High Court has issued a notice to the State Government on the collapse of the 120-year-old Rudhia bridge near Sathipur in Jajpur district during the recent floods. After the bridge collapsed, communication to Jajpur town was cut-off for several days till the floods subsided. The division bench comprising Chief Justice V Gopalagowda and Justice B N Mohapatra, responding to a PIL filed by one A K Mishra seeking an enquiry into the collapse, has asked the Government to file its response. The petitioner has alleged that the bridge constructed by the British had been languishing in sheer neglect despite having heritage value. Alleging mismanagement and other irregularities in the maintenance of the bridge, the petitioner has appealed to the court to direct an enquiry and to take remedial measures.
