Gujarat: Danger of flood looms after heavy rains
Dams are now full of water, many bridges have broken down and water level in rivers has increased.

Ahmedabad: Just a few weeks ago several districts of Gujarat were reeling under the affect of drought and facing severe water crisis. But with heavy monsoon rains they are now facing the threat of floods. Nine people have died due to cloud burst in Saurashtra and many villages have been completely cut off from other parts of the state.

Dams are now full of water while many bridges have broken down and the water level in rivers has increased drastically after last two days following very heavy rainfall in Gujarat. Amreli district in Saurashtra under on high alert after 12 inches of rainfall was recorded in just one night.

Saurashtra's Khambhalia recorded 8 inches of rainfall in just two hours while Manawadar reported a cloud burst like situation. Apart from Saurashtra areas like north Gujarat, Bhavnagar, Junagarh, and Kutch have also received heavy rainfall. Central Gujarat has also seen heavy rainfall.

Jignesh, a resident of Amreli, said that all the roads have been blocked due to heavy rains.

According to the met department, heavy rains are expected in the next 36 hours in Saurashtra and north Gujarat.
