CHENNAI: One of India’s premier military academies, the Officers Training Academy, will be celebrating its golden jubilee this year. In conjunction with this, the OTA plans to organise various events during the course of the year.Established in 1963 as Officers Training School, it was started to meet the escalated demand for officers in response to the Chinese aggression. Events planned to mark the 50th year of founding of the academy will start off with the Governor of Tamil Nadu Dr K Rosaiah visiting the Martyrs Memorial on January 16. This will be followed by a blood donation camp. At a press conference on Thursday, Lt Gen SS Jog, SM, VSM, Commandant of OTA, said, “Many of the events are in the planning process. The aim of the celebrations is to display to the youth of the city the career options available in the Army.”The Army Band is also scheduled to perform at Elliot’s Beach on January 25 and 26. This will be open to the general public. Other events that will take place during the year include motorcycle expedition, sports meet, quiz show, leadership seminar and inter-college cultural festival.
