CUTTACK: Residents of the Indranee Apartments at Station Bazaar had a scare of their lives, when fire broke out in the furniture showroom on the ground floor of the highrise on Friday morning. Property to the tune of lakhs has been gutted in the fire though none of the residents have been affected in the mishap. According to reports, smoke was first noticed in the Maple Furniture at around 9.30 am in the morning, when the showroom was yet to be opened. Residents of the flats in the six storied highrise immediately rushed out of the complex while informing the Fire station. As they huddled on the open street, three fire tenders were pressed into service. The fire was doused after more than an hour but the timely action ensured that its did not spiral out of control or spread to the floors above. The entire furniture stock of the showroom was gutted in the fire. Fire officer Chandramani Routray said, the fire was caused by an electricity short circuit. It is likely to have occurred early in the morning and by the time the smoke was noticed, it had taken the entire shop in its grip.
