As Chennai gears up to host India’s first night street Formula 4 race, the traffic police have issued a slew of advisories on road closures and diversions that will come into effect from August 30 till September 1. The Formula 4 race is scheduled to be held on August 31 and September 1 on a 3.5-km circuit around Chennai’s Island Stadium.
Traffic will be affected at key locations in Chennai, including like Walaja Road, Annasalai, Kamarajar Road and EVR Road.
The Chennai Metropolitan Traffic Police have announced that heavy and light commercial vehicles will be prohibited from noon to 10 pm at Munram, Muthuswamy Point, and Paris Corner. The Traffic Police have also stated that Sivananda Salai and Kodimaram Road will be completely closed, with no traffic diversion available for vehicles traveling from Kamaraj Road towards Santhome.
Vehicles traveling from Central Light towards Anna Salai can proceed as usual up to Pallavan Road Junction, where one lane from Pallavan Road Junction to Periyar Salai has been converted into a temporary two-way.
Vehicles heading towards the War Memorial on Kamaraj Road may be diverted near Labourer’s Statue and proceed via Walaja Road, Annasalai, Periyar Statue, and EVR Road. Vehicles heading towards Walaja Point on Anna Road will be redirected to Central Light Point on Pallavan Road.
The traffic police have also strictly stated that vehicles are not allowed to travel from Muthuswamy Junction to Annasalai and Kodi Maarachala. Instead, they should take Pallavan Road, EVR Road, Central Railway Station, and Periyamedu Gandhi Irwin to reach their destination.
