Childline activists on Monday rescued five children, including two girls, from Gopalkrushna Sevashram in Bahinipati village under Chikiti block in Ganjam district. According to Sudhir Sabat, director of Childline, one Joseph Seth Chatia of Salimagocha village in Soroda block had brought these kids to the sevashram for admission on August 1.

He submitted the relevant documents for their admission but stated that the kids were destitutes despite the fact that they had parents. The kids complained about it to the authorities who informed the Childline activists.

During verification, the activists came to know that Chatia had collected Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 from their parents for their admission. The parents on receiving information took their wards home on Monday with a promise to admit them in their village school.

BID TO LOOT ATMs: Miscreants tried to uproot two ATMs at Hillpatana and Sanabazaar on Monday. The nuts and bolts of the machine were opened at Hillpatana while a hot blower was used at Sanabazaar.

The irony is that both the ATMs are situated on main roads and there is night police patrolling. The police were informed after customers found the ATMs  damaged.

The miscreants had covered the camera at Hillpatana ATM but the camera at Sanabazaar has reportedly captured pictures of the miscreants.

SAWMILL RAIDED: Forest and Vigilance sleuths raided on Monday an illegal sawmill near Kendupat village under Khallikote police limits.

Besides equipment of the sawmill, the raiding party led by Forest Ranger Bijay Kumar Hota and Vigilance Inspector Anil Pradhan seized wooden logs and planks worth Rs 60,000.

MAN’S BODY FOUND: The body of the father of a member of Khallikote Notified Area Council (NAC), kidnapped recently, has been recovered. “The body of Yudhistir Nahak (55) was found floating in Samala barrage near Talcher and handed over to the family members on Sunday,” Inspector-in-charge of Khallikote Shisir Mishra said.

Nahak, father of Shankar Nahak, a sitting councillor in NAC Khallikote was allegedly kidnapped by some miscreants from his home on July 18.

“We have detained some persons for interrogation in this connection,” Mishra said adding that investigation was in progress.
