VISAKHAPATNAM: City police arrested a gang of criminals including ex-constable of CISF, Neeraj Kumar, involved in various crimes including killing of one V Sai Babu and his son Pavan Naresh at Talarivanipalem of Gajuwaka area in the city on May 24 this year for a pair of gold earrings and two mobile phones.Police also recovered 18 tolas of gold worth Rs 5 lakh, 5 mobile phones, 7.65 mm pistol, 2 country made weapons (tapanches), 8 mm rounds 5, SLR rounds 3, 303 rounds 1, Motor cycle, scooter and watch from the accused. Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, Commissioner of Police J Purnachandra Rao said Neeraj Kumar, 29), belonging to Baju in Meerut mandal, Uttar Pradesh, worked as constable in Central Industrial Security Force few years back. He was subsequently transferred to Raichur. But Kumar did not join duty.Rao said Ankush Kumar and Pulkith Kumar, Neeraj’s accomplices used to purchase country made guns (tapanchas) from Uttar Pradesh and threatened people in the city for money and gold. Rao said the gang was involved in eight offences in a span of 18 months including the murder of V Sai Babu and his son Pavan Naresh for gold. On December 9, Kumar and Pulkith Kumar fled from Railway Station after opening fire. CCTVs installed recently at the Railway station helped police to identify the modus operandi of the gang. Police teams visited Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar for information about the accused, he said.
