DG Tihar prison Alok Verma to become next Delhi Police chief

New Delhi: Director General of Tihar prison, Alok Verma, will be the next Delhi Police Commissioner.

Verma, a 1979 batch IPS officer from AGMUT cadre, is likely to take charge on March 1, 2016 by replacing BS Bassi, who is about to retire on February 29.

Bassi is a 1977 batch IPS officer of union territories cadre.

Sources said, Bassi is one of the contenders for the post of Information Commissioner in Central Information Commission (CIC).

Bassi's name was shortlisted in November 2015 by a search committee headed by Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha.
