Demand to renovate old, Harbour railway stations

KOCHI: P Rajeev MP has  demanded that the old railway station in the city should be renovated to make it the hub of suburban train service.   In a statement made before the Rajya Sabha, P Rajeev pointed out that the railway station with all major facilities is lying idle.  “If the railway line from Pachalam to the old railway station is electrified, trains can go through this station. Passenger services from Kochi to other places and MEMU services can start from here. It would help in solving the traffic issues in the city,” he said.P Rajeev further pointed out the need for renovating the Harbour railway station. The railway line to Harbour station should also be  electrified. Trains to Fort Kochi, Tripunithura, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Thrissur can pass through this station.  This will help in reducing the rush at Ernakulam Junction railway station, he said.
