Delhi: Man Stabbed to Death After Being Robbed of Rs 400, Mobile Phone; Accused Arrested
On reaching the spot, the police officials found the deceased lying under a quilt on the roadside

Two men in northeast Delhi’s Welcome area allegedly killed a person after robbing him of Rs 400 and a mobile phone. The accused duo was arrested on Wednesday and were identified as Shehzad (20) and Tahir (36),both residents of Janta Mazdoor Colony.

Police said that information regarding a dead body of a male on the road near Community Centre, West Gorakh Park was received in the Welcome police station on Tuesday at around 7:55 a.m.

As soon the officials reached the spot, the deceased was found lying under a quilt on the roadside. In connection to the gruesome murder, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said, “There were four stab injuries marks on his body – one on the left side of neck and three on the chest, both side.” 

During the probe, the CCTV footage revealed that the victim arrived at the scene at about 11:29 p.m on Monday, the DCP said.

According to the footage, he was seen trying to find a place at several locations in the area, before lying under a quilt. He seemed to have sustained injuries before 11:29 p.m. and died sometime during the night.

The DCP further said that all suspected vehicles seen passing by the spot were checked following which the team focussed their investigation on an e-rickshaw. Following a probe, the team soon identified the suspected e-rickshaw and found that a man identified as Shehzad had been driving it.

The suspected e-rickshaw driver was apprehended and upon interrogation revealed that he along with his friend Tahir were in the e-rickshaw, when they took one passenger, Vijay from Seelampur Chowk.

Revealing Shehzad’s confession, DCP Tirkey said, “On their way to the Janata Flat, Welcome, they stopped the e-rickshaw at a by-lane, near Community Hall, and robbed the passenger of his mobile phone and money, Rs 400, after threatening him with a knife. When he resisted, they stabbed him on his chest and neck before pushing him out and driving away.”

“The robbed mobile phone, SIM card, blood-stained clothes worn by the accused and the e-rickshaw used in the commission of crime, all have been recovered from the accused persons,” the DCP added.

The deceased was identified as 26-year-old Vijay, a resident of Seelampur. As per information gathered by the officials, Vijay was presently unemployed and was dependent on his three sisters for money, as their parents had passed away.
