With Gurusaidutt and Ajay Jayaram's exit, India's challenge came to an end.

New Delhi: Indian challenge ended in the Vietnam Open Grand Prix after RMV Gurusaidutt and Ajay Jayaram suffered contrasting defeats in the semifinals in Ho Chih Minh city on Saturday.

Fifth seed Jayaram, a quarterfinalist at the World Championships earlier this month, squandered a first game lead and lost 12-21, 21-14, 21-16 to second seed Sho Sasaki of Japan in a 52-minute match.

Compatriot Gurusaidutt, seeded 12th, was no match for top-seed Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam as the Indian was brushed aside by the world number seven 21-5, 21-9 in a lop-sided contest.

All the women's singles players - Aditi Mutatkar, PV Sindhu and Arundhati Pantawane - had crashed out of the tournament on Friday night.
