PARADIP: The 15-year-old boy Pitua Jena of Kothiashai village under Kujang police limits who sustained burn injuries when crackers caught fire during the Biju Workers Union rally on Wednesday, died at the SCB Medical, Cuttack, on Thursday. Six persons, including Pitua sustained 75 per cent burn injuries during the rally at Kujang here. The six were admitted to Kujang hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical when their condition deteriorated. The rally of BJD workers from Kujang to Paradip was accompanied by beating of drums and bursting of crackers with Jagatsinghpur legislator Bishnu Das and Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debasish Samantray leading the pack. The explosion took place when crackers were lit on a mini-truck during the rally. Villagers alleged that Das and Samantray hurriedly left the spot without even visiting the injured at Kujang hospital.Receiving information about the death, people of Kothiashai blocked the road and demanded a compensation of ` 2 lakh and stringent action against organisers of the rally. They have filed cases against Samantray, Das and Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena.
