CPM releases second list of candidates

CHENNAI: The CPM on Sunday announced more candidates for the upcoming local body polls. The list contained candidates for eight municipalities, 13 for town pancha- yat presidents across eight districts,  50 for wards across three corporations, and 22 for panchayat council presidents in seven districts.The CPM’s list of candidates, its second in two days, comes even as it is locked in discussions with Left cousin CPI. The CPI is yet to come out with any such list of candidates. The CPM is also expected to make some crucial decisions at a meeting of its State Committee on Monday, state secretary G Ramakrishnan told Express.The CPM’s Sunday list named candidates for eight municipalities - Chidambaram (H Fouzia Begum), Cuddalore (S Dhanasekaran), Pudukottai (M Ziauddin), Dharmapuri (M Ravi), Rameshwaram (CR Senthilvel), Nagapattinam (Ajantha aka Annie Besant), Thirumangalam  (D Muthukalai) and Periyakulam (SA Razzak).The list also named candidates for 13 town panchayats in Pudukottai, Dharmapuri, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Karur, Nagapattinam and Erode districts. It included 22 candidates for panchayat council presidents in Pudukottai, Dharmapuri, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Madurai and Nagapattinam districts.Also part of the list were 34 candidates for the Chennai Corporation Council and eight each for Madurai and Erode Corporations.
