KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation will intensify raids on hotels and restaurants in the city to ensure that good quality food is supplied to the public. The Health Department of the Corporation has already served a notice on the owner of a hotel in the city ordering its closure. “We have already issued notice to the owner of Hotel City at Janatha Junction to close it down within 24 hours. We have also issued a show-cause notice to Hotel Sona and Hotel Ceylon at Padma junction after seizing stale food from them,” said Kochi Corporation Health Standing Committee chairman T K Ashraf.The raids conducted the other day had unearthed spoiled food materials and rancid oil from three eateries there. “We have also seized more than 4 kgs of plastic materials, below 40 micron, from various shops in the Ernakulam market area,” Ashraf added. The Health officials said that some of the hotels were also found to be short on cleanliness and lacking mechanisms to ensure maximum hygiene. “If the hotels and restaurants fail to take necessary steps to improve hygiene and ensure cleanliness, we will go ahead with procedures including cancellation of licences,” they said.
