Bangalore: Two Kerala youths, who were the firsts to visit as many Pakistan-born Let terrorists at the Central jail in the past three years, sent the sleuths of a National Investigating Agency into a tizzy, leading to detention of the visitors. According to sources in the investigating agency, initially, the duo were detained on the suspicion of being terrorists.
But during interrogation it was established that the youths were just distant relatives of the terrorists. They were residents of Calicut and had no links with any terror outfits. They had come to inquire about their well-being and pass on the information to the jailed militants' families living on the other side of the border.
Last week, an alert was sounded at the Parappana Agrahara jail when the duo walked into Central prison office, seeking permission to meet Fahad and his associate Mohammed Hussain, who have been arrested on terror charges from Mysore three years ago.
As it was the first time that someone had come to visit Fahad since his arrest, the prison authorities alerted the investigating agency before detaining them. A team of officials from the investigating agency rushed to the spot and conducted a detailed probe.
Intelligence sleuths also seized their mobile phones to track call details for further investigations.
"Initially we suspected something fishy, but on cross checking, their native address was found to be genuine," said an official. The duo were let off later.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (south east) P S Harsha denied having any information about such incident. The central prison authorities are also tightlipped on this issue.
Meanwhile, the authorities are planning to shift both Fahad and Hussain to Mysore Jail, which is considered to be more secure than the Central jail and also boasts of mobile jammers.
