Congress on agitation mode

BHUBANESWAR: After chargesheeting the Naveen Patnaik Government in the court of President Pratibha Patil, Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Thursday decided to take corruption charges against the Government to the people.Congress workers will stage dharnas at all block headquarters on October 2 to highlight the corruption issues and the failure of the Government on all fronts, OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik said.Accusing Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of heading the most corrupt Government in the political history of the State, OPCC spokesman Arjya Kumar Gyanendra said the party will create public awareness about ‘massive loot’ of the State’s natural resources.The multi-crore mining scam in the State is much bigger than that of Karnataka. Similarly, the Vedanta land scam is no less a crime, he said.The Orissa Lokpal has also castigated the Naveen Patnaik Government for showing undue favour to Vedanta University, he added.In its memorandum to the President, the OPCC has drawn her attention to the non-submission of the Lokpal report in the Assembly.Holding the Government responsible for the recent flood, the OPCC president alleged that relief was being distributed on party line.The Congress will also highlight the dal scam under mid-day meal, linkage coal scam and the rural job scam under the MGNREGS, at the proposed peaceful dharna on Gandhi Jayanti, he said.
