BHUBANESWAR: The State Government on Friday set up monitoring committees for restoration works in the flood-hit areas to fulfil the commitment made to the Centre. The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik here. “As the State Government has given a written commitment to the Centre assuring to spend Rs. 1,208 crore within 45 days, it formed the committees to ensure that the deadline is met,” Patnaik said. The departments concerned have already been allotted funds required for rebuilding roads, bridges, common facilities, and river and canal embankments, Patnaik said. District collectors have been asked to ensure quality of the work and see to it that there is no mismanagement. To ensure quality of work, photographs will be taken before and after the restoration of roads, bridges, buildings and other infrastructures which have been damaged. While Special Relief Commissioner will head the State-level monitoring committee, collectors will preside over the district level committees for smooth implementation of restoration activities, he said. Meanwhile, relief operation in all the flood-hit areas came to an end with all the people returning to their houses, official sources said.
